Editor's Review
Driving through McAllen, I couldn’t help but notice the bustling Dollar General, a familiar sight that many residents visit almost daily. It’s fascinating how this store, often seen as just another chain, has its own unique charm and quirks. A recent renovation seems to have breathed some new life into the place, as noted by Lemon Drop, who mentioned, 'It's always organized and clean... the staff is friendly and they are pretty quick with service.'
However, the service experience appears to be a mixed bag. Some customers appreciate the convenience of having a store nearby, like Jose Cap, who enjoys the short drive but lamented, 'there's no signal' when ordering through DoorDash. Others, like Ruben Sanchez, pointed out that customer service could use a little warmth, recalling a cashier who simply waved customers over without any greeting.
Despite these inconsistencies, the overall sentiment about Dollar General remains positive, with a solid 4.2 rating from 501 reviews. Many shoppers see it as a reliable option for last-minute needs, a sentiment echoed by customers who appreciate the helpfulness of the staff and the store’s ability to serve urgent shopping needs. Still, some voiced concerns about certain products, particularly the Clover Valley brand, which Dalia Rios did not hold back in critiquing, stating it was 'the worst' and advising others to steer clear.

It is a good store for a last minute shop or a birthday or gift card. But the cashier that is there instead of saying next or may I help you just waves for you to go to his register. No thank you or good afternoon and does not even offer a receipt.
They are always so helpful and have things you need that you forgot to buy last minute.
